How am I matched with a therapist?
Our intake coordinator will work with you to understand your relationship needs and concerns and will fit you with the therapist that is right for you and your partner. You may read more about our therapists under the specialists section of the website. Our therapists have specialized training, skills, and expertise in couples counselling approaches and are able to serve clients of diverse relationships.
What can I expect in the first meeting?
A therapist will meet with you and your partner together to understand your relationship concerns, gather the necessary background information, and establish treatment goals for your work together. You will discuss your client rights, responsibilities, and service benefits and limits with the therapist and you are encouraged to ask questions about the counselling process.
Couples counselling requires you to share your talking time with your partner and explore each others’ perspective. It is not uncommon for partners to have different expectations, goals, or concerns at the start of therapy. As such, the initial meeting is intended to clarify expectations for each partner and establish common goals in our work together.
What if I am in a relationship and my partner won’t attend counselling?
Sometimes partners may not be ready to join you in couples counselling. You may start your relationship work individually in order to reflect on aspects of the partnership you have power and control over. Our therapists are trained to build your curiosity about your relationship needs and how best to express these needs in your partnership. In any partnership, feedback is an important part of communication. If we can change your ways of relating and expressing yourself, it may improve challenges experienced in the partnership and may break unhealthy patterns of relating or communicating with one another.
How long is the session?
The length of your couples session is based on many factors including your counselling needs, concerns, goals, scheduling preferences, and financial resources. Usually sessions are 50-minutes in duration, but many couples find it necessary to also engage in 90-minute sessions to work more deeply on their important topics and concerns. Once connected with a therapist, you and your partner will establish session lengths that are suitable to your specific relationship needs while taking into consideration your availability and financial situation.
What are your service fees?
Our service fees are based on therapist credentials, experience, skills, and training, as well as the Psychologists Association of Alberta fee schedule. Session fees range from $200-$225 per 50-minute session and $300-$350 per 90-minute session. You are expected to pay for your session at the time of service and we accept debit, credit, cash, or cheque. We are open to negotiate our fees in cases of genuine financial hardship.
Please make note of our cancellation policy: if you cancel your appointment less than 24 hours or 1 business day or you fail to show for your arranged session, you will be charged your full session fee.

Are couples counselling services/therapists covered by Health Insurance?
Many benefit plan providers such as Alberta Blue Cross, Sun Life, Manulife, and Desjardins, provide coverage to individuals and their dependents for psychological services. Please contact your benefit provider directly, your employer, or reference your benefit plan booklet for more information on your coverage.
What if I need to cancel?
Please contact your therapist immediately via email, phone, or by using our JaneApp in the event you need to cancel your arranged session. Cancellations less than 24 hours or within 1 business day will be charged at the full session fee. It is your responsibility to ensure your therapist is aware of your cancellation notice.

Where do I park?
We are pleased to offer you free parking at the time of your session. There is free 90 minute visitor parking behind the building. There is also 1 hour parking on 17th Avenue and 2 hour parking on 17th Street. For more information on where to park, please take a look at the directions and parking map below.
What if I have an emergency situation before our next appointment?
If you have an emergency situation that cannot wait until your next appointment, please consider calling your therapist to schedule an emergency session. Our therapists will make every effort to see you at the office as quickly as they are able. Alternatively, if you need help in an urgent situation, or you are in crisis, you can find help at the Emergency department of your nearest hospital or call 911. You can also call the Distress Centre at (403) 266-4357.
